Knee Pain Solutions

Knee Pain Causes

Many people suffer from knee pain from at one time or another.  Whether you are an avid athlete, a weekend adventurer, or a sofa sitter, you may experience knee pain for different reasons.  Many times, the pain is not caused from problems in the knee itself, but from problems in the leg, hip or spinal region. Whatever the cause of you knee pain, an evaluation and treatment by an experienced Massage Therapist and/or Chiropractic Doctor may be the solution to your problems.

Reasons Knee Pain Develops

Knee Pain has many Causes

When considering knee pain, the person needs to be looked at as a whole unit.  Often times, the knee itself become the focus, but important factors about the way a person walks (your gait), lifestyle, and history play an important role in finding the cause, and ultimately the solution to the problem.

1. Tight muscles in the hamstrings, quadriceps or Illeotibial (IT) Band, influence the tracking of your knee joint.  The unbalanced tension of a tight muscle group can pull the knee so it tracks slightly to one side or the other.  Click here to learn more about IT Band tightness and knee pain. This misalignment in the knee joint, even if very slight, causes tension in the joint which can lead to pain.

2. Misalignments in the hips and pelvic area also contribute to developing knee pain.  These misalignments may be due to muscles tension and imbalances coming from the hip joint or pelvis area.  These imbalances throw off your gait and lead to increased pressure in the knee joint.

3. Spinal misalignment from trauma, accidents or tight muscles also affect you knee. Spinal misalignments may be causing the muscles in the back, hips and buttocks to tighten up.  This causes imbalances in your gait, thus affecting the pressure in your knee.
